The Residential Renewable Energy Tax Credit is a product of the new stimulus bill given to consumers by our president and congress. The credit will put money in your pocket because you are doing your part for the planet with the heating and cooling of your home.
As a homeowner you can receive a 30% tax break of up to $1500.00 for simply upgrading your home ventilation system with more energy efficient heating and cooling equipment. Thiele can provide an extensive list of the eligible products available, which include:
- Selected central air conditioning systems
- Air source heat pumps
- Natural gas, propane or oil furnaces
- Gas, propane or oil hot water boilers
- Geothermal heat pumps
- Advanced main air circulating fans
Eligibility requirements include standards for Energy Efficiency Ratios (EER,) Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE,) Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio (SEER) and other factors. Thiele’s estimators can help you sort through your options once you decide to investigate this opportunity.
"The fact is, by paying attention to these regulations and purchasing the correct equipment, homeowners and businesses can consistently lower their energy bills, reduce damaging emissions, and lessen air pollution, all while reducing their income tax burden," stated John Traub, owner of Thiele Heating & Air Conditioning. "Plus, the country as a whole will benefit as we become more energy efficient and independent."
On February 17, 2009, important changes were made to the homeowner tax credits for specified energy-efficient home improvements, which includes qualified heating and cooling products. Two of the more significant revisions to this include the extension of the tax credit through 2010 and the increase of the total available tax credit from 10% to 30%. Homeowners who purchase a qualified heating and cooling product between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010 are now eligible for a tax credit equal to 30% of the full purchase and installation price with a cap of $1,500.
To make a claim as a homeowners, save your receipts for heating and cooling equipment purchased between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2010. The purchases can then be claimed as a tax credit in the 2009 or 2010 tax seasons.
